The body fossil of an octoradiate spiral organism living in the Ediacaran (Sinian age) about 0.58 billion years ago was found on a hillside at Wenghui Village in Guizhou Province’s Jiangkou County. It is the earliest body fossil of octoradiate spiral organisms up to now. The founding indicates that China Has made great progress in research on Ediacaran metazoans. The journal of “Acta Geological Sinica” (2008, Vol.1) published the related key research results, which were made by the new proterozoic research team of the geological institute, CAGS.
The body fossil was found in the stratum equivalent to “Miaohe biota” for the first time. The founding not only confirms that octaspiral trace fossils in the Miaohe biota are fossils of octaradiate spiral organisms, but also provides key reference for comparison of Australian typical Ediacaran biota and the biota emerging in the late Doushantuo formation of Chinese Sinian age for actinomorphic organisms are one of the key members of typical Ediacaran biota.
